Dear Friends,
Kosal is one of our new We Love Kids scholars, though she is in a different situation than most of our kids. Kosal was born HIV positive. Her mother died when she was young and her father abandoned the family. She and her sister lived with their old granny, who simply did not have the means to take care of them. When she was 10, she developed full-blown HIV and nearly died. Fortunately for Kosal, her village, O Ta Nhien, has a small Christian cell church. The cell church leader, Seyha, recognized the symptoms and got medical care. Kosal's life was saved, but she remains on anti-retro-viral drugs today. She lived in a children's home until she was 18, receiving good care, but the HIV left it's mark- Kosal has cognitive issues and does not have full use of her right hand. She returned to live with her granny again, her only relative. WLK helps Kosal each month, and Kosal stays with her granny, living next door to Seyha and his family, near the church. She and her granny eat with Seyha's family, and have become part of his family too. She is a Christian, helping with simple tasks and cooking during fellowship times. Seyha told me happily, "She calls me dad now!" God has promised to be a father to the fatherless, and He has kept that promise for Kosal! Please pray with us both for her and for the many children like her across the world, afflicted by HIV through no fault of their own.
Sarah and Elliot are Joining!
We are pleased to announce that Sarah and Elliot Jennings have agreed to join WLK to be trained as Operational Directors, taking over many of the day-to-day operations of WLK! Sarah has been doing a great job managing the WLK cards ministry. They have two children, Rachel and Daniel, and live near Kansas City. Joni will continue as Director, but Sarah and Elliott have a great desire to be part of cross-cultural global missions, and will begin to step in and up! We feel it's time to begin training others for the next generation.
"And whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward." Matthew 10.42 (CSB)
Han Vontha was featured in our last newsletter, as we requested a sponsor for her to continue through high school, and we now have sponsor for her! Thanks to all of your for your faithful assistance for girls like Han!
