A Visit to the Vietnamese Slums of Kratie Cambodia
I feel compelled to write about some of what I have just seen an heard over the last few days. My partners and I at We Love Kids have been trying to work with some of our teenage kids up in the worst slum areas of Kratie. It’s just almost impossible to believe that one lady (the mother of Rami, who is being featured in some of the pictures) is taking care of eight- count them! – eight children. None of them can read and write. The two oldest daughters desperately wanted to help bring in income, so of course, had to do the only thing open to them- turn to prostitution. Most of the younger grandkids are orphaned because of death, or one of the parents running away with another partner, leaving grandma holding the bag. One of the sons is an alcoholic, so grandma ended up with his kids (3) too.
We are trying to get the youngest teen, Rami, to our house in Phnom Penh so that she can avoid the nightmares her sisters are enduring.
We are believing she will be with us soon. Grandma is with us now, checking out work and staying with us for a couple of days while she takes a sick grandchild to the hospital. The little girl, 6, named Bop Pha, has never seen a toy, or even been in a normal house like our center. She is taking to the new environment like a duck to water! We hope and pray we can bring her down too, along with Rami.
we need everyone’s prayers!!
